Victim of Acid Attack Ameneh Bahrami

TEHRAN, IRAN - DECEMBER 10, 2008: Ameneh Bahrami gets on with her daily life at home where she lives with her parents, while awaiting for her agressor, who blinded her in both eyes, to get his punishment. Ameneh Bahrami was blinded by Majid Movahedi in an acid attack after she turned down his marriage proposals. Majid has been sentenced to receive the same punishment, in an application of Iran's sharia 'eye-for-an-eye' Qisas laws. Ameneh was left horrifically disfigured after Majid Movahedi threw a jar of acid in her face in October 2004. She lost one eye totally and partly blinded in the other. A Tehran criminal court ordered the agressor to be blinded in both eyes by acid drops, in response to a plea by Ameneh Bahrami. The punishment is legal under the Sharia Code of Qisas, which allows retribution for violent crimes. A judge asked Ameneh if she wanted Movahedi's face to be splashed with acid, in reply she said: "That is impossible and horrific. Just drip 20 drops of acid in his eyes will make him realise what pain I am going through". Ameneh Bahrami, said she was asked by Majid's family to marry him several times, but she had declined. Majid had later threatened to kill her, he decided to attack Bahrami after she told him she had married someone else. "I decided to splash acid on her face so her husband would leave her and I could have her," he told the court. (Photo by Kaveh Kazemi/Getty Images)
