Calm In Bucharest As Thousands Call For Government To Step Down

Romania's ruling Social Democrats has appealed for calm following the largest demonstrations in Romania since the fall of communism in 1989. Protests were called after the government tried to introduce a decree that was widely condemned as reversing the country's anti-corruption drive. On Sunday, following a week of nightly protests, the government rescinded the decree, which would have shielded dozens of politicians from prosecution however protesters again took to the streets to demand the government's resignation.
