Pride of Madeira at Pico de Arieiro - stock photo
(Echium candicans or Echium fastuosum) is a rapidly growing tropical or tender perennial/biennial shrub from the borage family (boraginaceae) that grows up to eight feet in full sun. Seen on the edge of Curral das Freiras valley along hiking trail at Pico de Arieiro. Pico do Arieiro, Madeira island's third highest peak. The footpath northwards towards Pico Ruivo is an important tourist attraction, with a daily average of 1000 tourists trekking on it.
