Idling away the weekend afternoon at a beautiful tree-lined coral cay on remote eastern Manus Island, Papua New Guinea. These islands are occupied by mostly Melanesian people however there is some customary influence from Micronesian people from the north and west. Life is relaxing and slow paced, particularly on weekends when recreational fishing becomes a favorite past-time. These islands were the scene of heavy fighting during World War II as American soldiers fought the entrenched Japanese troops to the last drop of blood. The mayhem of the 1940s is now a world away from this tranquil Pacific outpost.
