Bishop blesses animals at shelter to celebrate Feast of St Francis of Assisi
A bishop has blessed the animals at a sanctuary to mark the Feast of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. Bishop Robert Byrne CO, Roman Catholic Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle, visited the Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter on Tuesday to mark the saint’s day. The bishop performed a special blessing for the animals at the shelter at Benton North Farm, which currently cares for Shetland ponies, dogs, pigs, cats, puppies, donkeys, horses, kittens and a goat.
