GAZIANTEP, TÜRKİYE - MAY 18: On International Museum Day, hundreds of visitors filled Zeugma Mosaic Museum in Türkiye’s southeastern province of Gaziantep on Thursday (May 18).The Zeugma Museum, which is one of the largest museums in the world hosts unique mosaics, paintings and statues from the Roman and Byzantium era.The museum is one of the largest of its kind and is home to unique ancient artifacts, such as mosaics, Roman-era fountains, the bronze sculpture of Mars -- the god of war in Roman mythology-- and the famed Gypsy Girl.The 12 pieces of the mosaic of Gypsy Girl -- which was returned by the U.S. to Türkiye after 52 years -- are some of the most notable art pieces in the museum.Zeugma Museum located on the historical Silk Road showcases numerous acclaimed artworks including "Mars Statue," as well as Roman fountains and mosaics discovered in villas near the Euphrates River.Ozgur Comak, the director of Zeugma Mosaic Museum said that last year on International Museum Day, they welcomed over 4,000 people which they are hopeful to surpass with visitors both local and international.(Footage by Adsiz Gunebakan/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
